For many new mothers, the experience of childbirth and early motherhood is anything but the perfect picture we imagine every mother experiences. We are led to believe that as soon as a new mother lays eyes on her new baby she will feel an instant connection and all the longing and love she has felt for nine months will finally be realised.
But for many women this never happens. For whatever reason, they don’t have this instant bonding with their baby. Instead, they feel very emotional and sad, are unable to sleep, and cannot connect with their baby. These symptoms can last for just a few hours or at most a week, and then disappear.
