Milly

About Milly: Amelia grew up in Sydney, Australia but her itchy feet soon saw her traveling through South-East Asia and Europe.

She spent 7 years living in London, where she worked in Video Post Production and then trained as a massage therapist. She opened The Talia Clinic with some other graduates before heading back to Australia with her future husband.

In Sydney she worked as a massage therapist, completed a diploma in reflexology and a certificate in baby massage, got married, and fell pregnant. When their daughter was 15 months old, Amelia’s husband was transfered to Hong Kong where they lived for two years. They then lived in Beijing for three years, had another baby, and have now been in Singapore for 2 and a half years.

Amelia has relished the challenge of raising children in a foreign country, where the traditions are different and there is much to be learnt from the diverse ways that people bring up their children. She keeps an open mind and wants her children to grow up with a respect and understanding of the cultures that make up this fascinating world.

Elaine

About Elaine: Elaine is a true blue Singaporean - brought up in the HDB heartlands playing zero point, five stones and many local games. She realised her wish of learning to be independent when she spent 2 years in Perth, Australia and graduated with a degree in Economic and Finance from University of Western Australia

Upon her return, Elaine worked in an Asset Management Company and later joined the Insurance industry as a Financial Advisor. In 2006, she accompanied her husband for a business trip to Montana, USA and brought her 7 month old baby Ashton along the 30+ hours, 4 plane transit journey. In the 5 weeks stay, she fully appreciated the bliss of being a mother and her close bonding with Ashton was forged. She left her job to be a full-time mother when she was expecting her second baby Ashlyn and decided to give them her undivided attention.

She is also instrumental in setting up of her husband’s food business venture Xiao Bei in Century Square in Tampines and provided valuable critics and advice to the partners especially during the franchise sourcing phase in Taiwan.

Elaine fulfilled one of her biggest passion, WRITING, through her website www.thenewageparents.com. She hopes to share her parenting styles and ideas here which were sometimes rather different from traditions ones from her elders. Her vision is to build up a community of like minded parents to contribute their parenting experiences and sharing their problems actively.
